Spot tin on the Kuala Lumpur Tin Market rose $9, or 0.15 percent, to $6,099 a tonne. Volume for the day was 33 tonnes, just one tonne shy of Monday.
Three-month tin on the London Metal Exchange, the main guide to prices in Malaysia, closed up $30 at $6,100 a tonne on Monday. "It was quiet a market here, but there were some buyers in response to the LME," said a Malaysian tin trader.
Sellers in Kuala Lumpur offered 33 tonnes at the open of Tuesday's market, against initial bids totalling 50 tonnes from European and Japanese buyers.
At the close, the Europeans ended up with 20 tonnes and the Japanese 13. Spot tin was selling at a premium of $190 a tonne over LME prices on a cost, insurance, freight basis (CIF) for voyages to Rotterdam, dealers said.
